Apple has announced significant price increases for its MacBook lineup, with the MacBook Pro seeing the biggest jump. The company’s warning of inevitable price hikes has now become official, as we see a $100 surge on the MacBook Neo and a whopping $200 increase for the MacBook Air.
The MacBook Pro's starting price has jumped to $1,999 – a 20% hike. However, there are still some tantalizing deals available, particularly on the 13-inch MacBook Air which is now $350 cheaper than it was at full price. The base MacBook Pro is also looking attractive, with a $450 discount.
The context? A global chip shortage, with memory manufacturers prioritising AI data centers over consumer tech. Even Apple’s vast production volumes couldn’t prevent cost increases from trickling down to consumers.
Other affected devices include the entire iPad lineup and iMacs, with prices rising across the board. Amazon currently offers limited discounts, but it's uncertain how long they'll last as their pricing may adjust soon to match Apple’s retail prices.
