Lego Pokémon: Are We Paying Too Much?

Is the price tag on joy just too steep, or are we in a world where fun has limits?

There's no way in hell I'm paying $300 for the new LEGO Poké Ball set. It’s a fun take on Polly Pocket, but has Lego lost its mind?

Official Lego Pokémon sets exist and as fans know, they sell out FAST. This is annoying when you think about it, not only because of scalping, but for what it communicates to Lego and The Pokémon Company – that people are willing to pay anything.

If we all collectively put our foot down and refused to pay these extortionate prices, would it change anything? Probably not. But there's no way in hell I'm paying close to $300 / £229 for the latest Poké Ball Iconic Trainer Moments set, no matter how cool it is.

Pssst – check out the more affordable Mega Blok Pokémon sets from Mattel. On the other hand, Lego X Pokémon has brought out brand new sets of not one, but two of my all-time faves: Munchlax and Arcanine. It feels targeted, honestly.

I'm going to have to wait for prices to come down, but for those who can afford to build em all, check out the new Pokémon Lego sets below, available for pre-order now (Rayquaza has already sold out at The Pokémon Center).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks these prices are ridonkulous. Did you pre-order anything? Let me know in the comments.
