Code in an iOS 27 beta suggests Apple could restrict iPhones if users miss payments on their devices. The new ‘Partner Finance Lock’ would prevent users from erasing or reselling the device while it’s in 'Restricted Mode'.
Iphones in this state lose access to almost all apps, save for a few essentials like the Phone app and Settings. A system called 'App Managed Features' allows financing partners to monitor payment status continuously.
Interestingly, these restrictions are part of Find My, but don’t give financing companies tracking rights over the device’s location. The code appears in beta iOS 27, so it may evolve before release.
The ‘Apple Upgrade’ program, which could introduce this feature, hasn’t been officially announced yet. Apple declined to comment on these findings at press time.
