Patreon has cut its workforce by 20%, laying off 93 people in an effort to adapt to market changes. CEO Jack Conte acknowledged that AI is transforming the tech industry but insists human creativity remains irreplaceable.

The layoffs are part of a broader restructuring, which includes 'flattening' the organizational chart and refocusing teams on key priorities. Affected employees will receive severance pay and healthcare coverage for the year, plus a laptop stipend.

Conte stated that AI has transformed how Patreon operates, including product development and communication. However, it won’t be replacing human talent anytime soon, according to him. The company is also partnering with Cloudflare to block AI bots from scraping creators' work without permission.

Patreon's latest round of layoffs is the largest since 2022 when 17% of its staff was cut. That year, Patreon also closed offices in Berlin and Dublin.
