Console-Free Future? Amazon Sees Streaming Take Off

As hardware gets pricier, could cloud gaming finally break through?

Amazon's head of gaming Jeff Gattis believes the future lies in streaming games online rather than purchasing consoles. With rising costs and improving technology making cloud gaming more viable, he argues that many are likely to question whether they need their own hardware.

While giants like Sony and Microsoft already offer streaming as part of their subscription services, traditional console users remain loyal to local installations. Gattis suggests there's a huge untapped market beyond current console owners, with Amazon aiming to reach two-and-a-half to three billion gamers worldwide.

Yet, despite its promise, cloud gaming still faces challenges such as the need for high-end controllers and inconsistent internet connections. The subscription model could also impact traditional sales revenue.

The integration of Amazon Luna into Prime Video suggests a potential shift in how we access games. However, skepticism remains about whether this will lead to widespread adoption, with experts predicting a gradual transition.
