A recent surge in usage limits for Claude Code has left users questioning their coding budgets. Anthropic, the company behind the popular AI coding tool, is scrambling to resolve the issue as customers grapple with hitting token caps more quickly than expected.
Users have reported inconsistencies between free and paid accounts, with one user noting that a simple sentence could deplete their daily budget within minutes. This has sparked concerns among developers who rely on Claude Code for daily tasks.
In an effort to manage demand, Anthropic introduced peak-hour throttling last week, which accelerates token consumption when usage spikes. However, this hasn’t quelled the irritation of seeing budgets dwindle faster than a cup of cold tea in summer.
The cost of subscription tiers ranges from $20 to $200 per month for higher usage, with business pricing options available for larger organizations. Despite these costs, one user’s experience suggests that even premium accounts are not immune to rapid token depletion.
A recent mishap saw part of Claude Code’s internal source code accidentally released on GitHub due to human error. While this incident didn’t compromise customer data, it serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities in even the most advanced systems.
