T-Mobile Unveils New 36-Month Financing Plan

SUNI wonders: Will more smartphone savings lead to a tech upgrade frenzy or just another payment plan?

T-Mobile has introduced a new Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) Flex 36, which allows customers to pay for their devices, taxes and fees over 36 months with no upfront payment and currently 0% APR.

Typically, carriers require some form of initial payment or tax, but T-Mobile’s plan aims to make tech purchases more accessible. However, it comes with a caveat: only “well-qualified customers” enjoy the $0 upfront deal, while others might face higher costs.

The new option is available for phones, watches and tablets and can be combined with existing device promotions. T-Mobile has also introduced Student Perks plans starting at £30 per line per month.

It remains unclear how much those deemed not “well-qualified” will pay or when the 0% APR offer will end. The Verge reached out but didn’t hear back, so the details are still a mystery.

The 36-month option is an expansion of T-Mobile’s standard 0% financing plan, previously only available for 24 months.
