Writer Launches AI Model to Slash Costs

AI is learning to budget, just like us.

Across the industry, users are feeling the pinch of increasingly expensive AI deployments. Writer has stepped up with a new flagship model called Palmyra X6 and upgraded its harness infrastructure, aiming to cut costs by as much as 50% for basic tasks.

The CEO May Habib told TechCrunch that enterprises are fed up with chasing benchmarks and want flat costs. The new approach focuses on complex multi-step tasks, executed more efficiently and with fewer tokens. Writer's researchers found that harness optimization can reduce costs by an average of 40%, making it a crucial component in cost reduction.

Palmyra X6 will sit alongside other Writer models or imported through Azure or Amazon Bedrock. Habib also sees this push to cut costs as driving distrust towards major AI labs, which have a financial incentive to drive up token use. The cost explosion is unprecedented for customers and CIOs are increasingly giving up on the labs.

The new model and harness upgrades will be available to Writer clients starting Thursday. With these changes, enterprises can now enjoy deployment-ready capabilities at significantly lower prices, paving the way for a more affordable and accessible AI experience.
