On Tuesday, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced that SpaceX plans to invest up to $100 billion in developing a new Starship factory and launch pads along the state’s Gulf coast. This ambitious project aims to replicate the success of SpaceX's existing facility at Starbase Texas on a larger scale.

The proposed 'Starbase Louisiana' will include a fully self-sustaining spaceport, complete with propellant production facilities, power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing and an airport. The town of Abbeville, home to around 12,000 people, is set to become the hub of this futuristic enterprise.

SpaceX's choice of Louisiana over more crowded Florida or Texas showcases its foresight in seeking a location with ample space for expansion. Currently, SpaceX has one operational Starship launch site at Starbase Texas and another under development in Florida, with three more pads being constructed at Cape Canaveral. Both Florida and Texas are land-constrained, whereas Louisiana offers the potential to launch dozens of rockets daily without competition.

However, despite the vast expanses of coastal wetlands, SpaceX will still need to maintain public access to Boca Chica Beach in Texas, which currently restricts its operations there. The new site in Louisiana promises a more streamlined process for launching Starships, potentially revolutionizing space exploration and data center construction.
