Capital F, one of the few all-female-led venture capital firms, has closed its debut $17 million fund with a clear vision: backing companies that cater to the 'female economy', primarily defined as sectors where women drive demand—women's health, digital commerce and AI tools. The latter is critical given that 'women are disproportionately victims of trust and safety violations,' according to one of the firm’s co-founders.
The journey wasn’t easy. Co-founder Margaret Coblentz stated: “If you had asked me maybe 15 years ago, ‘are you going to go into venture?’ I don’t know that I would have said yes.” After years at the top of corporate management, they decided that change was needed and launched Capital F, named after their favorite F-words.
The fund has already invested in 13 early-stage companies, with notable portfolio companies like Hey Jane, Stardust and Steller Sleep—Google’s recent acquisition. Almost 80% of the fund's limited partners are women, a testament to their efforts in bringing more women into investment rooms.
“We realized that many times women aren’t invited into the rooms to invest in funds,” comments Dawn Dobras. Despite being new fund managers, they have managed to create strong relationships and even some exits, such as Steller Sleep’s acquisition by Google.
