Acer’s Project DualPlay Mini: A Keyboard in Your Pocket

Acer’s latest concept device aims to bridge the gap between gaming laptops and handhelds, but is it more than a fancy toy?

Acer’s latest concept device, Project DualPlay Mini, is a gaming handheld with a unique twist: it comes with a flip-out keyboard, allowing users to switch between handheld and desktop-like configurations. This dual-purpose gadget is designed as a Windows gaming handheld, similar to the existing Predator Atlas 8, but with a smaller, more portable form factor.

The DualPlay Mini’s flip-and-swivel design offers flexibility, potentially making it a useful travel companion. With an 8-inch screen flanked by traditional gamepad controls, users can switch to a keyboard-friendly setup, allowing for the play of PC games on a device the size of a Steam Deck. However, the small screen size might limit its use as a primary work device, unless you have specific needs for external screen connectivity.

Specs for the DualPlay Mini are yet to be fully revealed, but it is powered by an Intel chip and uses a dual-fan cooling system. Two USB-C ports, one with Thunderbolt support, sit on the back. While the concept is intriguing, it remains to be seen if Acer will bring this innovative design to market.

For PC gamers on the go, the DualPlay Mini offers a unique blend of portability and functionality. It could be a useful backup option for those who need to switch between gaming and work, or travel with a single device. Only time will tell if this concept has legs, but for now, it’s an exciting glimpse into the future of portable gaming.
