A live-action Netflix series based on the iconic Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting, Ravenloft, is on the cards. The series will explore the origins of Strahd von Zarovich, the vampire Darklord, delving into his tragic journey from antihero to villain.
The project, helmed by executive producer Alfonso Cuarón and writer and executive producer John August, is set to bring D&D’s most famous vampire to the small screen. Hasbro Entertainment is also involved in the production.
However, there's a twist. Netflix is no longer developing its live-action Forgotten Realms series from Shawn Levy and Drew Crevello. Fans of both settings are eagerly awaiting further details.
For now, the focus is on Ravenloft, which received an update earlier this year with 'Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.' The series promises to chart the origins of Strahd, who has been a staple of D&D lore since the 1980s.
Will this adaptation finally bring D&D’s rich fantasy world to a wider audience, or will it suffer the same fate as Forgotten Realms? Only time will tell.
