Kojima’s Next Move: Xbox vs PlayStation

Xbox secures Kojima’s next project, as Sony steps back. What does this mean for gaming’s future?

Xbox has picked up Kojima Productions’ upcoming game Physint, following PlayStation’s cancellation. The deal marks Xbox’s second title from Kojima Productions, after OD.

The move comes as part of a flurry of announcements, with Sony stating it was a “difficult decision” to step away from Kojima Productions but maintaining a strong relationship with the creator.

Kojima himself described the process as “searching tirelessly” for a new partner, calling Xbox “a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future.”

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma highlighted the importance of supporting creative ambition, stating that Physint and Kojima Productions align with Xbox’s focus on “our strongest franchises and biggest new ideas.”

The announcement also hints at future collaborations, with plans extending beyond games into film and television. While Physint is not expected to launch until at least 2030, OD is set to arrive sooner, with a first trailer having dropped last year.
