How Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy puts Stormind Games' Sicilian heritage at the forefront of its latest horror trilogy. The game's attention to detail, from the ornate interiors of its Sicilian villa to the Butoh-inspired Novices, reveals a rich blend of local culture and avant-garde inspiration.
Director Antonio Cutrona explains, 'This is about staying true to the Sicilian aspect of it, and believe it or not, we have many colours in our villas and architecture.' The game's narrative and setting are deeply rooted in the island, with locations often visible from Mount Etna, an active volcano on Sicily's east coast.
The upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 has allowed for a sophisticated and immersive environment, with intricate puzzles and a haunting atmosphere that keeps players on edge. The game's themes of hypnosis and trauma, symbolized by the Red Nun, tie into the mythos of the series and set it apart from other survival horror titles.
As a Sicilian developer, Remothered offers a unique perspective, blending local references with global influences. The Novices, for instance, move in an uncanny way inspired by Butoh, a Japanese dance theatre form, creating a unique and unsettling experience for players.
Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy releases on October 27 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, promising to be a standout in the genre, thanks to its deep cultural roots and innovative gameplay.
