Kojima Productions: Business as Usual

For now, at least. But games are a fickle business—much like the weather.

Kojima Productions has issued a statement contradicting reports that the studio is in financial trouble. In a statement and an interview, Kojima Productions asserts that it is ‘in a healthy, profitable state’ despite losing the contract for Physint and the support from Sony for its latest title.

The studio’s concerns about the broader game industry, which has seen several closures and cancellations, are shared by many in the sector. Kojima himself expressed surprise at the loss of the Sony contract, fearing it might jeopardize the studio’s future. However, the statement reassures that the relationship with PlayStation remains strong, and that the studio is financially robust.

‘Death Stranding’ and its sequel have faced challenges, with reports of disappointing sales. Yet, these issues seem to be isolated events rather than signs of an impending collapse. The studio remains optimistic, suggesting that its financial health is not affected by the current market conditions.

While the gaming industry continues to face its share of uncertainties, Kojima Productions’ resilience is a testament to the enduring appeal of its creator’s vision and the studio’s dedication to its craft.
