Meta's VR glasses: The future of wearables?

Are we finally moving away from the bulky headset?

Meta is set to revolutionize virtual reality with its latest offering: the VR Glasses. These sleek, lightweight devices resemble a pair of oversized sunglasses, but pack in the tech to deliver immersive VR experiences. Imagine strapping on a headset that’s as easy to wear as your daily glasses – that’s the vision behind the VR Glasses.

The glasses weigh just 100g, making them a stark contrast to the Quest 3’s 515g. This lightness isn’t just about the weight; it’s about the convenience. You can easily slip them on and off, making VR a more accessible part of your day-to-day life. Whether you’re watching a concert, gaming or working, the VR Glasses promise to be a game-changer.

But what about the display? The VR Glasses feature a 5K MicroOLED ‘Infinite Display’ with a resolution of 2412 x 2288 pixels per eye, perfect for those big-screen experiences. The glasses also come with two cameras for color passthrough, allowing you to see the world around you while you’re in VR. Plus, you can control the glasses using eye tracking and hand gestures, making them intuitive and easy to use.

Meta is also looking at the practical applications, showing off a virtual keyboard and trackpad that lets you type and use apps in the VR environment. There are over 75 games and more than 100 apps available, and while typing isn’t as fast as a physical keyboard, it could be a handy solution for quick messages or emails.

The VR Glasses will hit the market in spring 2027, priced at $1,299.99, positioning itself as a premium product for those who want to experience VR in a more natural and less cumbersome way.
