Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival is a visually arresting homage to the original. Drawing on the Brutalist aesthetics and themes of the Heb book, the game offers a mix of inventive set pieces and familiar mechanics, making it an authentic, unapologetically extreme horror experience. The story follows Aidan Lynch as he navigates the Labyrinth to free his girlfriend's soul, facing off against the Cenobites and their disturbingly detailed combat mechanics. While the game's visuals and systems are impressive, it never ventures far from the established formula, which can be limiting.
The Labyrinth itself is a masterclass in horror design, blending narrow concrete canyons with spinning traps and the eerie photorealism of Leviathan's domain. However, the game's reliance on recognisable elements from the original series means it may struggle to surprise new players. The Genesis Configuration adds depth to the gameplay, though its potential is underutilised. Overall, Revival is a solid, often fun experience that hews closely to Barker's vision, making it a worthy follow-up for fans.
