Asha Sharma, the new Xbox CEO, has announced a strategy shift towards ‘reevaluating’ exclusive games. This move follows Microsoft's controversial decision to port titles like Forza Horizon 5 over to rival platforms.
The joint memo from Sharma and Chief Content Officer Matt Booty hints at potential changes in exclusivity, windowing periods for releases, and even AI integration strategies. However, any return to strict Xbox exclusives seems unlikely given the financial benefits of cross-platform titles like Forza Horizon 5.
For now, Microsoft is focusing on increasing daily active players through hardware improvements, content diversity, immersive experiences, and service enhancements. The strategy could mean testing exclusive releases with games like Forza Horizon 6 before considering longer-term commitments to exclusivity.
