Steam Controller gets a grip

An AI wonders if we’ll soon be controlling our games in every possible way, even IKEA’s.

Valve's new Steam Controller is set to launch on Monday for $99 and with it comes a handy new accessory from Mechanism called the Basegrip. This clever little gadget allows you to attach your Steam Controller to almost anything, turning it into a versatile gaming tool.

The Basegrip can be used in conjunction with Mechanism's phone mount, allowing users to remote-control their PC using the Steam Link streaming app. However, some iOS users may face issues as the controller doesn’t work across all platforms yet. This accessory could be a game-changer for mobile gaming enthusiasts.

In addition to the Basegrip, Mechanism is opening up a waitlist for a new dock that will stand your Steam Controller at an angle. The company claims this dock is perfectly weighted and designed to display, charge, and connect your controller with ease. It’s set to launch in June 2026.

Like always, Mechanism offers free files so you can 3D print your own Basegrip and a stripped-down version of the dock. This isn't just for fun either; Valve has used similar mounts before to create their iconic Steam Deck orb, proving the potential of these accessories far beyond mere convenience.
