Nintendo has announced a price hike of $50 on its Switch 2 console, effective from September 1st. The new $499.99 price tag is a significant jump from the current $449.99, and marks a global adjustment to reflect changing market conditions.
In Canada, prices will increase by CAD$50 to CAD$679.99, while in Europe they’ll rise by €40 to €499.99 (about £428). In Japan, the Switch 2 price increases from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980 (about $382), with similar hikes for other Nintendo hardware and services.
Nintendo cited “various changes in market conditions” as the reason behind these adjustments. The company is predicting a dip in Switch 2 sales over the next fiscal year, forecasting 16.5 million units to be sold in FY27 compared to 19.86 million in its first full fiscal year.
These price hikes come on the heels of Sony’s recent price increase for PlayStation 5 consoles and follow similar moves by Microsoft. However, Nintendo is keeping prices steady for its original Switch models at this time, though increases are expected later in the year.
Nintendo acknowledged customer disappointment with these changes, saying: “We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders.”
