Valve has significantly increased the price of the Steam Deck—by more than $200 for some models. The 512GB model now costs $789, up from $549, while the 1TB version is priced at $949, a jump from $649. Both models are currently in stock with an estimated delivery time of three to five business days.
Valve attributes this price increase to ‘rising memory and storage costs’. It’s not just Valve feeling the pinch; Lenovo and Sony have also seen their prices rise due to similar issues, suggesting a broader trend affecting the tech industry. Nothing has changed about the Steam Deck itself, but these new prices reflect the current state of component costs and global logistical challenges.
For those unable or unwilling to wait for the official release, some refurbished models are available at lower prices—$629 for the 512GB model and $759 for the 1TB version. Meanwhile, Valve faces delays in launching its Steam Machine and Steam Frame due to memory shortages.
The company did manage to launch a related product—the Steam Controller—in late February. However, it seems that RAMageddon hasn’t spared any gaming device maker; even Lenovo increased prices on the Legion Go 2 by hundreds of dollars in April.
