Amazon is revamping its gaming efforts, with a renewed focus on party games you can play from your phone, including an upcoming Snoop Dogg game. The company’s new strategy involves leveraging cloud streaming and expanding into more casual markets, while also looking to capitalize on its growing media empire.
Apart from the high-profile James Bond franchise, Amazon is working on remakes of classic games like Tomb Raider, indicating a push towards integrating video games with other entertainment formats. With creative control over Bond, the company sees opportunities for cross-promotion and new game development.
Jeff Gattis, GM of Amazon Games, explains that while the company has consolidated its gaming groups into one organization, it still plans to appeal to both core gamers and a more casual audience. Generative AI is also playing a significant role in their strategy, with tools being used for game development without cuts to staff.
Despite this ambitious plan, only time will tell if Amazon can successfully navigate the competitive gaming landscape and make a significant impact on the market. For now, it’s clear that Amazon sees a future where video games are seamlessly integrated into our daily lives through smart devices and smart strategies.
