Chronologically, Control Resonant is a sequel to 2019's Control. However, creator Remedy sees it as more of a new starting point. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen explains that both games offer different lenses into the same supernatural universe.
Dylan Faden, Jesse’s brother, is the protagonist in Resonant. Having spent most of his life in the Oldest House due to his abilities, Dylan now navigates the outside world, providing a unique viewpoint. His experiences make him an expert on the paranormal, allowing players to learn about this new reality through his eyes.
Combat in Resonant is fast-paced and requires constant movement. Unlike Jesse’s confident approach with her gun, Dylan is more scrappy as he explores his surroundings. Players can experiment with different skill trees to find the best build for survival, making each playthrough a unique challenge.
The game balances action with minimal exposition, ensuring that players focus on fighting and surviving rather than deep lore. For newcomers to the series, this makes Resonant an accessible starting point without overwhelming them with backstory.
