Nintendo has announced a long-awaited remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The title is set to launch in 2026 and will be the first major release in the franchise since 2024’s Echoes of Wisdom.
This sequel marks a significant milestone, coming after the success of Tears of the Kingdom, which was released as a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. Both games received upgraded versions coinciding with the launch of the new console last year. Additionally, Nintendo has been expanding Zelda’s universe with titles like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.
It's clear that Nintendo is looking to explore the franchise beyond just video games; in 2027 they will release a live-action movie starring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. These images, released late last year, hint at a film that might draw inspiration from titles like Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess.
The remake is expected to bring back nostalgic gameplay while also incorporating modern advancements in console technology. As always with Zelda, it promises an adventure that will challenge even the most seasoned players.
