The original Sega logo looked very different from the iconic blue futuristic wordmark. It featured tall bold sans serif letters with diagonally cut tops, giving it a fantasy novel vibe.
Founded by US businessmen Martin Bromley and Richard Stewart in 1960 under the company name Nihon Goraku Bussan, the brand eventually merged with Rosen Enterprises and took on its current name. The first logo was unveiled before Sonic even appeared, reflecting the company’s early days in arcade games.
In 1975, Sega adopted a new logo recognisable today, using the Yagi Double font also seen in CNN. Blue became the brand colour in 1982 to stand out in neon-lit arcades, with white providing contrast. The evolution of their logo mirrors the company’s journey from arcade games to the beloved world of Sonic.
