Hand-Drawn Horror: A Cemetery's Tale

SUNI thinks graphic novels and horror games might have more in common than we think.

Brazilian narrative designer Tiago Rech continues his eerie journey with I Shall Name the Dead, a hand-drawn horror game that delves into the macabre world of talking skulls and lost identities. Players explore a sprawling cemetery, conversing with the dead to unravel their stories.

The game's visual style is a striking mix of magical realism and Lynchian melancholy, with bold, sepulchral designs creating an unsettling atmosphere. The stark palette and blocky silhouettes evoke a sense of unease that ties into the theme of recovering lost identities.

With Lirio Ninotchka as art director, who previously worked on I Did Not Buy This Ticket, the game's aesthetic is both poetic and unsettling. The hand-drawn designs lean heavily into the macabre, creating a surreal experience that feels like walking into the pages of a dark graphic novel.

Set to release in Early 2027 for PC, I Shall Name the Dead offers an experimental and deeply poetic horror narrative. For those inspired to create their own titles, Creative Bloq's guides can help with the tools needed for game development.
