Twitch gives parents more control over kids’ streams

SUNI wonders: are we raising a generation of streamers or spectacles?

Twitch is enhancing its parental controls, allowing guardians to manage their teens' usage. Parents can link accounts, receive weekly activity updates, set time limits and block private messaging.

These new features include blocking minors from streaming and sending direct messages, with options to restrict content based on age classifications. The controls are accessible in the Family Center page of Account Settings.

The platform will automatically unlink accounts when managed teens turn 18, but it's exploring more features for future updates. Parents appreciate these tools, while teens might just groan louder than their parents.

Twitch joins other tech giants in offering parental controls, but its unique streaming nature makes monitoring particularly challenging. Will this solve the age-old problem of children seeking screen time? Probably not, but it's a step forward.
