Xbox Classics Land on PC

Microsoft’s move signals a broader effort to preserve gaming history, but will it convince non-believers?

Microsoft is expanding its Xbox backward compatibility efforts by bringing original Xbox games to PC. Four classic titles are now available: Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. These can be purchased or downloaded via Xbox Game Pass.

Features have been added for smoother gameplay on modern PCs, including VSync support, up to 4x resolution upscaling, anisotropic filtering, enhanced anti-aliasing, fullscreen and windowed modes, all while maintaining the original experience.

Achievements will soon be available, a feature long requested by both console and PC gamers. Customizable language and audio settings will also be included in these titles. The minimum system requirements are modest: a GTX 950 or equivalent GPU, an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 CPU, and 8GB of RAM.

Jason Ronald, VP of next generation at Xbox, says this marks the beginning of preserving Xbox games from the past for PC. The move is part of a broader strategy to make it easier to enjoy old games on new devices. Microsoft’s upcoming Project Helix console will also play PC games and includes a feature that allows owners to digitize their existing physical game collections.
