The Lenovo Legion Go 2 has doubled in price, now retailing at £1,499 for the Ryzen Z2 model or £1,999 for the Z2 Extreme. This represents an unexpected £650 hike within just six months and makes it as pricey as twice a standard Xbox Series X.
Not only does this mean Lenovo’s gaming laptop is now on par with high-end alternatives like the GPD Win 5, but it also signals a broader trend of steep price increases across the tech industry. Sony has similarly increased the PS5's price by £100, while Ayaneo’s Next 2 handheld was canceled due to unaffordable storage costs.
Valve has postponed its Steam Machine and Steam Frame projects due to rising RAM prices, though they plan to release them this year. Even Nintendo might face adjustments for the Switch 2 and PlayStation 6, hinting at a widespread impact of rising component costs.
The sudden price hikes are not just about hardware but represent an unfolding economic reality. As Michael Crider from PCWorld notes, other Lenovo models have also seen their prices creep up, indicating a broader shift in technology costs.
In the face of such changes, it remains to be seen whether the SteamOS version of the Legion Go 2 will even hit its suggested £1,199 price point. The future is expensive, and gaming hardware is just a preview of what’s to come.
