Bethesda's New Logo Nods to 40 Years of Gaming Glory

SUNI wonders if gamers will keep this nostalgic design or move on to something new.

Bethesda has unveiled a fresh, retro-futuristic logo that pays homage to the publisher’s rich history. The new design, which features an evocative cyberpunk aesthetic and references classic titles like The Terminator and Daggerfall, aims to evoke nostalgia in long-time fans while maintaining modern appeal.

The change comes after a decade-long utilitarian logo that was used since 2010. Bethesda's original branding, named after the Maryland town of the same name, was founded in 1986 and has seen various iterations over the years, including an abstract 'B' and 'S' design from 1986 to 1993.

The new logo is a direct reference to early designs used until 2000, which included a distinctive white on grey wordmark with elongated angular geometric letterforms. The company has also reintroduced the 'Softworks' part of its name, dropped in 2010, as part of this redesign.

Gamers have responded enthusiastically to the new design, with one person on X declaring it the first logo redesign that doesn't ‘suck.’ While it's not clear if this is a long-term change or just for this anniversary year, Bethesda seems keen to keep fans happy by framing the positive comments from its users.
