HyperX Omen 15: Budget Gaming Laptop’s New Reality

HP’s latest model is a step up, but not without its compromises — and higher price tags.

The HP HyperX Omen 15 has taken the place of the long-standing budget-friendly HP Victus 15. While it boasts some upgrades like brighter displays and better webcams, these come at a cost that makes it far less affordable.

Its RTX 5050 GPU is sufficient for gaming in 1080p resolution, but only on low settings. This might be enough for light gaming sessions, but not for those looking for a visual powerhouse experience.

However, the Omen 15’s other specifications are somewhat lacking. The keyboard and trackpad feel cramped and clunky, while the speakers are muddy-sounding. The limited number of USB ports is a significant drawback, especially given the expectations for gaming laptops.

The screen offers decent brightness and color accuracy but falls short in terms of storage capacity. With only 512GB, you’ll quickly run out of space, even with smaller games like Battlefield 6 taking up substantial room.

All things considered, while the Omen 15 is a solid working-class gaming laptop, it’s definitely not as budget-friendly as its predecessor. In today's market, this model might just be too pricey for those looking to save on their next purchase.
