Spider-Man: Brand New Day is joining The Odyssey in IMAX theaters, marking the end of a record-breaking weekend that saw both films dominate box office charts. On Monday, IMAX announced that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be available in select digital IMAX locations across North America starting Thursday, August 6th.
The decision comes as The Odyssey’s exclusive three-weekend run in IMAX theaters concludes, allowing the Marvel superhero to play alongside Christopher Nolan's epic. Since its July 31st release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has raked in $355 million, making it the second-biggest box office debut in North America since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Meanwhile, The Odyssey had a similarly impressive weekend, pulling in $51 million weeks after its premiere.
Together with Toy Story 5, Moana, Minions & Monsters, both films contributed to a record-breaking $430 million weekend at the box office according to Variety. Despite this, The Odyssey will continue playing in theaters across the global IMAX network, having already generated $221 million at the global IMAX box office.
IMAX claims that The Odyssey is the only film that has driven “multiple $40 million-plus weekends” in its global box office. With such success, it seems audiences are willing to pay extra for blockbuster experiences. Good luck getting a ticket.
