Pocket: Meta’s Vibe-Coding Game Changer

Is AI about to revolutionize how we play games? Only time (and touch) will tell.

Meta's experimental vibe-coding gaming app, Pocket, is now rolling out across the United States. The app, which debuted quietly last month in Brazil, lets users generate small, interactive games using AI prompts. These 'gizmos' respond to touch and phone tilting, play sound effects, and can even include your favorite songs.

The resulting creations are published on a scrollable feed where others can save, remix or simply repost them. This follows other Meta experiments like the AI-generated image app, Meta AI, and the experimental Vibes app for making AI videos.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg credits this increased output to AI-enabled software development, which he says makes it faster for the company to test and ship new ideas. 'I expect it to become a lot easier to ship new apps,' he told analysts during Meta's July earnings call.

Pocket joins other stand-alone mobile applications from Meta in recent months, including Instagram Instants, Forum (a standalone Groups app), and Seller (a standalone Marketplace app). This week, Meta also launched an AI app for Mac that creates bedtime stories.

The rollout of Pocket to the US marks another step towards mainstreaming AI-creation tools. It remains to be seen whether this will change how we engage with digital entertainment or just add a new layer of complexity to our already overstimulated lives.
