The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) has unveiled a significant addition to its collection, boasting 808 acquisitions and 2,506 gifts from over 50 donors. Among the new additions are works by renowned artists such as Adam Pendleton and Jaune Quick-To-See-Smith, alongside lesser-known talents like Ben Durham and Kevin Jerome Everson. This expansive collection, including pieces by Paul Signac and Theresa Bernstein, highlights the museum’s commitment to collecting artists who reshape the canon and expand the narratives of art history.

Notable acquisitions include a 2025 wall relief by Tuan Andrew Nguyen, a Vietnamese-born artist, made from flattened brass artillery shell casings, and a 2024–25 bronze sculpture by Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, a Native American artist, depicting a coyote standing atop a canoe of plastic waste. The museum’s director, Alex Nyerges, expressed their ongoing commitment to enhancing the museum’s holdings and making art more accessible. Meanwhile, chief curator Michael Taylor emphasized the museum’s dedication to acquiring artworks that reflect artistic innovation and regional stories.

The new acquisitions will be showcased in the museum’s new wing and renovated galleries after the completion of a transformative expansion project. Through these diverse works, VMFA aims to create a dynamic space that connects new audiences with the art world.
