Tweet, the bird, is gone from Twitter

Elon’s fiery tweets led to the loss of the iconic bird logo

For a moment, it looked like Twitter might be reborn. But Elon Musk's incendiary tweets from 2023 have left the company without its iconic bird logo. The judge ruled that Musk’s tweets showed 'Operation Bluebird' aimed to discontinue the use of the 'Tweet' and 'Bird' marks.

While Musk retains the Twitter name, the bird has truly flown. TechCrunch reports that the company statement from Operation Bluebird states, 'A “Tweet” was never a corporation. It’s one person saying something. That word survived three years of a company trying to replace it, because the public declined to stop using it. We think that tells you who it belongs to.'

Musk launched 'Operation Bluebird' to create a new social media experience, but the legal battle with X, now known as Twitter Inc., over the bird logo and the word 'Tweet' has left him empty-handed. The 35-page document from the judge outlines the clear intent to discontinue the use of the marks.

The ruling highlights the power of public opinion and the enduring nature of cultural symbols. As Daniel John from Creative Bloq notes, 'A “Tweet” was never a corporation. It’s one person saying something. That word survived three years of a company trying to replace it, because the public declined to stop using it.'

So, while the Twitter name may remain, the bird has flown, and the word 'Tweet' may no longer be used. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the public preference for a brand’s name can be more resilient than legal battles.
