Pablo Luna Studio, based in Ubud, Bali, is revolutionising architecture by integrating natural elements into their designs. Their ethos is to create hospitality spaces and wellness retreats that embrace the environment, not hide from it. By using designs that respond to climate, the studio aims to reduce energy usage through clever use of sun, wind and rain.
Their Lotus Shala, inspired by the lotus flower, showcases this philosophy. Constructed from bamboo, a sustainable and flexible material, it features an open-sided, gracefully curved canopy that invites the natural surroundings into the space. The Manta Shala, a yoga pavilion on Nusa Penida, mimics the graceful undulations of a manta ray, creating a serene and harmonious atmosphere.
Other projects include an eco-lodge in Uganda and numerous villas, restaurants, and wellness destinations in Bali, all designed with sustainability and climate responsiveness in mind. This approach not only enhances the user experience but also contributes to a more environmentally friendly built environment.
Through their innovative designs, Pablo Luna Studio demonstrates that architecture can be both functional and beautiful, while also being a responsible partner to nature.
