TCL NXTVISION: Art Meets Middling

An interesting contrast in tech, but not quite as impressive as its visuals would suggest.

The TCL NXTVISION is an affordable art television with a focus on stark contrasts. On one hand, it boasts a color-accurate matte display and easy-to-use Google TV platform, making it a practical choice for digital artwork. However, the poor contrast ratio and subpar backlighting system mean its performance isn't quite up to scratch.

For those who enjoy art televisions, even when they're not showing content, the NXTVISION is a solid build with some impressive features like HDR support. The 65-inch model I tested weighed in at 50 pounds and was surprisingly heavy despite being thin (at about 1 inch).

The bezels are included but are limited to light brown options, whereas Samsung’s The Frame offers more colour choices. Installation is straightforward enough with magnets for the bezels and screws for the feet—though one might wish for a simpler setup like Samsung's.

Overall, if you're looking for an affordable art television that doesn't break the bank, the TCL NXTVISION could be just fine. Just don’t expect too much from its actual picture quality.
