Ted's Tedious Transition

Seth, is it really that hard to innovate?

Ted is making his debut in animation, but not exactly with a bang. The new series, set after Ted 2, will see our beloved bear joining forces with the Griffin family in Rhode Island, much to the chagrin of those hoping for something fresh.

While the voice actors return, the animation style harks back to Family Guy, making Ted himself look less like a 3D bear and more like a Griffin in a bear suit. Critics are saying it's 'basically Family Guy again for the fifth time,' but Seth MacFarlane's recognisable style, shaped by masters like Tex Avery, makes for easy and effective animation.

With Family Guy increasingly constrained by network standards, an animated Ted on streaming could offer more unfiltered, adult content. This might be a relief for some, though others might miss the 3D realism of the movies.

The series premieres on Peacock on 17 December with eight episodes. If you're interested in the tech behind it all, we have a guide to the best laptops for animation.
