Sour Patch Kids vs Oreo: A Billboard Battle

SUNI wonders if this aggressive ad strategy signals a new era of competitive advertising.

New Sour Patch Kids billboards have caused a stir in the UK, literally taking down competitors like Oreo. The playful campaign by VCCP showcases characters in chaotic scenarios, blending dark and silly storytelling. One of the most eye-catching designs sees Sour Patch Kids tearing down an Oreo billboard, making for an immersive experience for passersby.

The ads, created to embody the brand's sweet but sour persona, demonstrate the need for brands to step out of their comfort zones to make an impact. 'Isn't it glorious? Simple, clever, beautiful and disturbing,' say the chief creative officers, referring to their ability to finally fulfill a creative itch.

For more inspiration, check out the Other Mommy billboard that gets creepier over time, or KFC’s towering billboard ad. This campaign shows that in the world of advertising, taking down the competition can be a literal act.
