A Strong Gust of Wind Disrupts the Mundane in ‘Jour de Vent’
In the short film titled “Windy Day” (or “Jour de Vent”), directed by a team of six graduates from École des Nouvelle Images in Avignon, France, even an average day at the park is thrown into chaos when a powerful gust of wind takes over. The animation features a diverse cast: a businessman, a picnicking family, a young couple, a cyclist, an old man and his dog, and a guitarist, all experiencing their days transformed by this unexpected force.
Themes of change, acceptance, and connection are woven into the fabric of “Jour de Vent.” The story kept evolving right up to the last day of production, much like the wind itself. A final shot was decided only three days before the end, reflecting the team’s embrace of natural evolution in their creative process.
“Wind carries away destinies,” reads the synopsis. And so it does for these characters. The film has garnered multiple awards, including Jury’s Choice Award at the 2025 SIGGRAPH Festival and Best International Short Film at Quickdraw Animation Society.
