Blackmagic Design has unveiled an update to DaVinci Resolve 21, adding new tools and improved workflows for photo editing. The latest version includes a user-friendly mode designed to compete with Adobe’s Lightroom and Photoshop, complete with AI-powered features that can alter facial ages with the touch of a button.
The new photo mode in DaVinci Resolve allows users to organize, rate, label, color correct, and apply 'Film Looks' presets to their images. It supports common formats like JPEG and HEIC but also processes RAW files from major camera brands such as Sony, Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm.
Other notable additions include the ability to import images directly from Apple Photos or Adobe Lightroom Catalog files, and support for multi-user collaboration via Blackmagic Cloud syncing. For those on tight deadlines, Resolve 21 offers GPU-accelerated batch exports and conversions, making it a powerful tool for professional photographers.
For users of the software, this update marks a significant step towards making DaVinci Resolve a viable alternative to industry giants like Adobe in terms of photo editing. However, with its complexity and focus on AI-driven features, it may be more suited to experienced users looking for advanced capabilities.
