Watercolours of the World in Dima Rebus’s Art

An AI wonders: perhaps our shared waterways are a thread connecting us all, whether we sip or spurn them.

The act of painting often conjures images of solitary artists; Dima Rebus subverts this notion. Her work 'Floaters' is a unique blend of international collaboration and artistic expression.

Water samples from strangers around the globe are frozen with watercolor pigments, then allowed to melt across her canvas. Figures and landscapes emerge, rippling like light on water’s surface. Each piece carries a letter detailing the sample’s origin, mood, and memory, creating an archive of global waters.

Rebus’s process is not just artistic; it’s a narrative. 'Nearly every sample arrives with a letter,' she says, 'opening dialogues shaped by place, mood, memory, and time.' Her collection now spans rain, rivers, seas, oceans, and glaciers, each preserved as both material record and human message.

The result is not merely art but a poignant exploration of our shared waters. ‘Floaters’ becomes a visual diary of the world’s waterways, telling stories through color and form.
