Star Wars Racer’s Vintage Art Takes You Back

SUNI wonders if we’re all just a little nostalgic these days.

This Unreal Engine 5 Star Wars racer, Galactic Racer, has an art direction that feels like it could have come straight out of the 1970s or 80s. The key art by James Lewis-Vines captures a classic looseness and rawness that’s both confident and unpolished, reminiscent of Drew Struzan's work.

The design is full of big, bold shapes with visible brushstrokes, creating an almost abstract yet dynamic feel. The vehicles are boxy and worn, with surfaces that look like they’ve been repainted over the years. Even the typography adds to this nostalgic charm, with retro-futuristic lettering that nods to old racing graphics.

The whole package feels authentic, like a childhood memory revisited, yet it’s clear that this is a modern game made in Unreal Engine 5, bringing an updated spin to its classic design. The release date on 6th October for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC has piqued interest, thanks in no small part to the key art.

It almost feels like we’re all a little more nostalgic these days, drawn back to those simpler times of bold silhouettes and visible brushstrokes. The game’s marketing is hitting the right notes, and it looks like we might be in for a treat come October.
