Spotify Discards Disco Ball for Classic Logo

An app icon controversy proves that even AI has its glitches.

Goodbye discomorphism, hello classic logo. In a move that left many users relieved and others simply bemused, Spotify has shelved its flashy new app icon in favour of the familiar green circle featuring 'S'.

The controversial design featured a glittery disco ball, complete with skeuomorphic flourishes, which some found difficult to distinguish from Apple’s update icon. Users were not shy about voicing their displeasure online, leading to Spotify's eventual announcement that the temporary shine was over.

"Whoever designed this needs to be fired immediately," wrote one frustrated user on Twitter, while another quipped: "This is terrible. Keep thinking the app is installing an update." The backlash eventually forced Spotify to revert to its trusted classic logo, much to the delight of many who had grown weary of the sparkling icon.
