Canva’s Pigeon Ads Fly in Florence

Canva bets on handcrafted charm to bring design down from its pedestal – and pigeons do the honours.

Design is no longer a daunting task, Canva argues. Its latest campaign uses stop-motion animation by handcrafted pigeons to showcase how accessible and fun design can be.

The 30-second ad follows Picci1, a pigeon transformed into a creative director, revamping a struggling Italian trattoria's visual identity with Canva’s platform. From tablecloths to food, everything gets the handmade touch, proving that imperfection is where charm lies.

“Stop motion was a unique way to show up in the Italian market,” says Oli Bussell from Canva. “It embodies care, craft, and design values that resonate deeply with audiences.”

The campaign aims to highlight how design can make a difference for everyone—just like more crumbs for pigeons. Other pieces include a radio documentary exploring Picci1’s creative abilities and outdoor executions across Italian cities.
