The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust has slammed New York’s Danziger Gallery for offering an AI-generated artwork referencing the famed photographer's iconic work at AIPAD Photography Show. The piece, simply titled 'A.I. GENERATED,' was exhibited alongside other artists' works but did not credit any human artist.
In a statement, the trust expressed concern over the exploitation of Ansel Adams’ name and reputation without consent or recognition. They also highlighted their efforts to have the work removed, which Danziger has so far ignored.
“Ansel was an innovator who expanded the expressive and technical possibilities of his medium,” said the trust, emphasizing the importance of respecting artists' rights in the age of AI.
The controversy isn't new. In 2024, the trust also denounced Adobe for including AI-generated images referencing “Ansel Adams-Style Photography.” This latest incident has sparked a debate over the balance between technological advancement and artistic integrity.
