The luxury fashion giant Louis Vuitton has taken legal action against the Maryland Live! Casino for allegedly using its iconic LV monogram pattern in a branding campaign. The casino’s branded bags and backpacks featured an LV-like design with the addition of the Live! logo, prompting the fashion brand to sue for counterfeiting.
Despite Louis Vuitton's efforts to send a cease and desist letter, the casino reintroduced the items during its 'Endless Elegance' giveaway. This was described by the luxury brand as 'a particularly brazen move', aimed at falsely suggesting an affiliation between the two entities.
In their lawsuit, Louis Vuitton is seeking a permanent injunction against the casino and up to $2 million per counterfeit mark for each type of product used in the campaign. They also want all remaining infringing items destroyed.
While this case unfolds, other high-profile logo disputes, such as Patagonia’s controversial lawsuit or Aston Martin’s battle with its shareholder, continue to make headlines. The fashion titan hopes to protect its iconic status and maintain its brand integrity against what it sees as an unacceptable threat from the casino.
