When Absolute Batman debuted, the comic world was thrust into chaos. Now, Batgirl is facing her own redesign storm.
The new look, inspired by an exaggerated 'broody' aesthetic, sees Barbara Gordon, aka The Bat, eschewing her usual purple skintight suit for a more androgynous appearance complete with broad shoulders and trench coat.
While some are applauding the bold move, others are mourning the loss of classic features. One fan lamented: 'Don’t get me wrong I love this look but WHERE'S THE PURPLE?!?!
'Seems like a bad design for a Batgirl if you can't tell at a glance that she's a girl,' grumbled another, as they compared the new character to 'Batboy'. Yet, others praised the transgressive new look, suggesting it could signify a shift in how we perceive female superheroes.
