As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, art lovers in Upstate New York have plenty to explore. From Ron Tarver’s poignant images of Black cowboys and cowgirls to James Turrell’s mesmerising light installations, this summer's exhibitions offer a vibrant array of visual experiences.
The Hudson River Museum hosts striking photographs that showcase the resilience of Black American cowboys, while Centro de Fotografia em Woodstock presents an expansive biennial featuring diverse photographic techniques. Linda McCartney’s photography is celebrated at Fenimore Art Museum, offering a glimpse into her private life and iconic images.
Wassaic Project's exhibition is a particular highlight, presenting 39 artists across seven floors in a wild and wondrous adventure. Meanwhile, Rock, Paper, Sister at Women’s Studio Workshop explores contemporary consumerism through playful sculptures and installations by two artists.
