Pixar has once again pushed the boundaries of digital content with their latest marketing masterpiece. By combining reaction videos and a playful cat twist, they’ve created a unique pre-launch sensation for their upcoming animated film Gatto. The trailer was shown to a cast of feline stars who, predictably, were unimpressed – much like the characters in the film.
While reaction videos are often seen as derivative, Pixar has turned this trend on its head. The cats’ indifferent reactions have generated significant engagement months before Gatto’s release, with viewers sharing their own cat reactions and anecdotes about their pets.
Gatto is set to depart from the 3D art style popularized by Pixar, instead opting for a refined 2D CG look. This new approach will tell the story of Nero, a black cat living in Venice, Italy, who questions his life choices. The trailer also introduces audience favorite mobster Rocco and a humorous interrogation involving missing tuna.
Despite the different art style, the Pixar formula remains strong with playful humour and elite voice acting from Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne. The release date is set for March 5th, 2027, raising hopes that this fresh approach will impress both cats and humans alike.
